Why Friday runs differently
Friday is run the way the exchange ran: four lots, each with its own tempo, announced from the rostrum and chalked on the board.
The first lot is easy and social. The middle two are the busiest hours of our week. The last lot goes quiet again and often runs longest.
You are not committed to the whole evening. Come for one lot, eat through the next and leave when the board suits you.
Lot one
5pm. Easy going, seats available, kitchen unhurried.
Lots two and three
7pm to 10pm. Every table called, board full.
Lot four
10pm on. Half the floor, twice the argument, no bell to rush you.
